October 05, 2021
Have you been suddenly sneezing a lot, with no particular cause or trigger to it? It is likely that you are shuddering from allergic rhinitis a condition that can be extremely frustrating and annoying in the long run. Here are some myths and facts surrounding it.
Myth 1: Allergic Rhinitis is Only Caused by Hay
Fact: Allergic Rhinitis is commonly called hay fever. This has led many people into believing that this is caused by hay only. In fact, many people just keep away from hay to avoid it, not realizing that it is actually caused by a whole lot of other factors! Pollen and dust are among the most common factors that cause allergic rhinitis and should be avoided. The spring season is particularly hard and one should wear a mask when traveling during that time.
Myth 2: Tobacco or Cigarette Smoke Doesn’t Cause Allergic Rhinitis
Fact: Cigarette Smoke can really exacerbate allergic rhinitis. These particles in the smoke can irritate the nasal pathways, causing the body to have a reaction to expel these particles. If you have allergic rhinitis and smoke or have a loved one who has allergic rhinitis, kindly refrain from smoking as secondhand smoke are particles from the clothes of smokers can also trigger a sneezing session.
Myth 3: Allergic Rhinitis Isn’t Harmful
Fact: In most cases, the patient does not develop any condition that warrants any critical action. However, many people with allergic rhinitis cannot sleep properly as they feel uncomfortable. This in turn contributes to overall fatigue and slowly (indirectly) harms the well-being. Children with allergic rhinitis struggle in school as they feel fatigued too, lowering their quality of life.
