Vertigo :

If you experience constant inexplicable giddiness or dizziness, on a frequent basis it is likely that you are experiencing vertigo. While this condition cannot be prevented, it can be controlled with a combination of diet and lifestyle modifications.

Here is how you can control vertigo, and reduce the dizziness you feel:

Diet Modifications:

  • Avoid consuming foods that are rich in salt or sugar (e.g., Sweets, salty snacks).
  • Limit coffee consumption to one glass a day
  • Drink at least three litres of water daily.
  • Eat vitamin rich nuts like almonds and walnuts to help your body deal with the vertigo.

Lifestyle Modification:

  • Partake in at least 15 minutes of mild physical activity.
  • Train your body to get you to the dizziness by partaking in activities that cause giddiness in moderate amounts.

In addition to diet and activity, ensure that you get at least six to eight hours of sound sleep daily. Tiredness and fatigue have been found to exacerbate vertigo and increase anxiety.

Despite the modifications if the vertigo still persists and shows no signs of abating, contact an ENT specialist to diagnose the condition. Your doctor may prescribe medications to help you with combating vertigo. It is likely that inner year problems can contribute to vertigo and treating the same will provide some much needed relief.
